Gabriella Benci also organises decoration courses (mock marble, decapè, gold leaf application and polishing, minor restoration of painted woodwork, dusting techniques, wood surface decoration on objects, furniture and doors in the style of eighteenth century ceiling-work, ancient and modern ageing techniques).
Each 4 hour lesson, for a minimum of 4 and maximum of 12 people, takes place in the Castle's old lemonery from 9am to 1pm for 3 or 5 days consecutively. All materials are supplied with the exception of the brushes which can be bought at the Castle. All decorated objects are the property of the students.
Artistic experience is not necessary because enthusiasm and a sensitive eye are most important.
Gabriella Benci, after her diploma in Restoration from the Italian University of Art in Florence (l'UIA), learnt decoration techniques, as was traditional, as an apprentice for two years in one of the oldest artisan workshops in Florence. She subsequently worked for other important workshops. She decorated the Hotel Pitrizza di Porto Cervo in Sardegna as well as numerous villas, where her work was sometimes the subject of articles in interior design magazines.
Some of her decorations are also to be seen in the Agriturismo where students can choose to stay.
